Fritan Technology Fringe Screw
Hi. I’m Fritz with Fritan here to demonstrate our solution for loose and stripped door hinges.
Most of you have seen doors like this one: sagging, not closing and latching properly, hitting the door frame. The cause is stripped door hinge screws that won’t tighten. This is a common and annoying problem that used to take a long time to fix.
In the past, doors like this were temporarily fixed by stuffing and gluing wood shavings or toothpick in the screw holes, but that was messy and didn’t last long. A more robust repair involved removing the door and drilling larger holes that wooden dowels were glued in. After which pilot holes were drilled and the hinges could then be reinstalled. That worked well, but was time consuming.
Fringe Screw
I’ll show you a way to tighten your loose doors quickly with just a screwdriver and a minute of time. This is Fringe Screw, a product I invented to make this repair simple and reliable. Here’s what makes it work. Threads that are wider and longer than the original hinge screws will tighten in the enlarged, stripped screw holes. The head is identical to the original hinge screw and fits perfectly in the hinge.
With Fringe Screw there is no need to remove the door or hinges. Just remove the loose screws and replace them with Fringe Screws one at a time. Describe repair as I am doing it. These are one inch Fringe Screw. There are also three inch Fringe Screws for that can be used on the jamb side to make the door even more secure.
Fringe Screw is available in a variety of sizes, lengths and colors to tighten almost any door hinge that attaches to wood. They can be purchased directly from fritan, at homedepot.com, or a variety of retail hardware stores.
