Window Replacement History

The english language-word window originates from the vintage norse ‘vindauga’, from ‘vindr – wind’ and ‘auga – eye’, i.E., wind eye. In norwegian nynorsk and icelandic the old norse shape has survived to these days (in icelandic most effective as a less used synonym to gluggi), in swedish the phrase vindöga remains as a term for a hole thru the roof of a hut, and within the danish language ‘vindue’ and norwegian bokmål ‘vindu’, the direct hyperlink to ‘eye’ is misplaced, similar to for ‘window’. The danish (however not the bokmål) phrase is mentioned fairly in addition to window.
